Location: 802 Frank Ave. Shenango Township Lawrence County
Shortly before noon today, fire broke out in a vacant house located at 802 Frank Avenue, Shenango Township. The intense flames severely damaged a neighboring home occupied by Herbert Brest and his wife. Brest heard a "pop" and looked out the window to see the porch on the house next door on fire. While his wife called 911, Brest used a garden hose to fight off the fire that severely damaged the side of his home. According to Brest, the people next door have been moving contents out of the home for several months. KDSTV talked with the unidentified owner of the home who came to the scene after getting word of the fire. She told us that her grandparents had owned the home before passing away and wanted to eventually sell it. There was no insurance on the house. The Red Cross was called to assist the two residents of the occupied home. No immediate information was available as to the cause of the fire. New Castle Fire Department assisted Shenango Township in fighting the fire along with several mutual aid companies.
